Horseshoe News:Summer Staff Opportunities See our Camp Horseshoe Summer Service Opportunity information sheet as well as our 2008 Staff Brochure for information about summer opportunities. Camp Horseshoe Reflections Reflections about Camp Horseshoe from a WV HI-Y student. Horseshoe Accreditation ACA Accreditation, first earned in 1957, was renewed by the ACA in October, 2007. Horseshoe scored very high on all standards reviewed by the ACA team. Camp Horseshoe Improvements If you have not been to Camp Horseshoe recently you might want to stop by and see the facility improvements that have taken place since the beginning of the 2007 summer camping season. These improvements include: new roofs on 4 of the cabins, the other 4 were cleaned and treated along with the Dinning Hall and other buildings. The Director's House, Pavilion and Administration Building also received a new roof. Each of the 8 decks on the cabins were cleaned and stained. Each restroom also received new and improved hot water tanks and plumbing. The National Guard helped get a great start on the McManus Center. Hopes are to have parts of the building ready for the 2008 summer season. Quilt Camps are a Stitch! Mary Smith has done a great job in creating a number of Heritage Arts programs at Horseshoe. A very popular program is the Quilting Retreat which happens in the Spring and Fall. Everyone has a great time as they quilt and quilt and quilt. And of course the food is super! Check the Calendar for the next retreat and see Camp Horseshoe Programs for a description and links to the registration form and brochure. Group Destination Want to escape to the wilderness of WV for a weekend getaway? Why not consider Horseshoe? Rustic cabins are available as well as the dining hall and lodge. Nearby you will find areas for hiking and skiing at Caanan Valley and Blackwater Falls Park. Contact Horseshoe for details. |
I t's hard to describe why teens find Horseshoe such a special life changing experience. The answer may be that Horseshoe is real... not a virtual reality, not a video game, not a sport or a ride at an amusement park. Horseshoe is people engaged in discovery of self, others and the power of building community. Horseshoe builds relationships in a setting that eliminates distractions of today's culture (no radios, cell phones, TVs, computer games, alcohol, drugs, etc.) Everyone is called to become their best and to lift others up to become their best, to learn how to use their talents, and to return home ready to make differences for good. ![]() |
