HI-Y Model UN: |
International Education and LeadershipStudents Gain
As an Ambassador, you will...
There's also time in the three-day session for recreation, friends and fun. Students leave for home with a better appreciation of international affairs, strengthened academic skills and many new friends. Nation RequestNation Assignments are made on the first mailed in (no phone calls), first served basis. Our UN office, upon receipt of the Participation Agreement fee, assigns nations. Groups must "fill up" one nation before requesting a second nation. Each nation may have two to four students. Choice of Nations: Request nations more familiar to your group, more in the news, and those easy to research. Debate is better with nations more influential or more involved in current world issues. Select nations from a different continent before requesting nations from the same continent. Each delegation selects at least one Model United Nations Security Council nation. EligibilityParticipation is open to students from every school and community. Housing and MealsTwo nights lodging and five meals are included in your Model United Nations Fee. OfficersStudent President of the General Assembly, Secretary General, and Council Presidents are elected at the end of an Assembly to serve all year for the next Assembly. Officers begin work at June's HI-Y Leadership Conference at Horseshoe. Officers candidate forms and election procedures are in the UN Manual.
Advisors and Adult LeadershipOne adult for every ten (10) students must be registered with the United Nations program and stay at the conference with their delegation. Coed delegations need male and female adults. Adults assist with the UN Assembly and provide supervision to their students. Help is AvailableThe HI-Y Model United Nations is a program of the HI-Y Leadership Center for the youth of every community. The staff of the HI-Y Leadership Center will help in your participation. A staff person will meet with you to help you prepare for the best possible United Nations experience. Program materials, UN manuals, and help by phone and mail are also available. Give a call, write or email and we'll help! "The HI-Y Model United Nations helped me have a more open mind to new ideas and different people." |
